Sources and licenses

Openfume has 5,380 fragrances from 354 brands. Each one is built only from open data and from facts brands publish about their own products. Every page lists where each field came from.

What we never do

We never copy from Fragrantica, Parfumo, Basenotes or any other fragrance database site: not their names, notes, accords, ratings, reviews, descriptions or photos. We don't keep brands' photos or marketing copy either. Descriptions here are written from the facts, and main accords are worked out from the notes.

Brand websites we read

We read a brand's public product feed only when its robots.txt allows it and its terms don't forbid automated access, with at least two seconds between requests. 147 brands passed; 548 were skipped. Brands that want to be added, corrected or left out can open an issue.

Reusing the data

The database is open under the Open Database License, because it includes Open Beauty Facts data. Use it, build on it, and credit Openfume and its sources; share changes to the database under the same license. Photos keep their own licenses. The code is MIT licensed.
